Personal injury attorneys at Kimmel Carter support Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Games

The Kimmel Carter team was proud to support the Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Games on Saturday, March 19 at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center.

An annual event benefiting Best Buddies Delaware, the Games showcased the top senior high school basketball players in the state as selected by the Delaware Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association, with a 1:30 p.m. girls’ game and a 4:00 p.m. boys’ game.

The Gold teams, made up of students from southern Delaware high schools, swept the Games, beating out top Blue team players like Sanford’s Mikey Dixon in the boys’ game and Chrishyanah Alston in the girls’ game.

The packed lineup also included a “local celebrity sponsors” game, a $10,000 shot contest and entertainment from mascots, the Smyrna High School pep band, and McKean High School cheerleaders. NBC10 Philadelphia Reporter and Salesianum graduate Tim Furlong emceed throughout the day.

The Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Games have raised millions of dollars for charity since they were founded in 1999 by Morton Kimmel. Since 2009, Blue-Gold Basketball proceeds have benefited Best Buddies Delaware, a nonprofit that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A driving annual fundraiser for the organization, the Games typically raise over $100,000 each year to support the chapter’s middle school, high school and citizen level programs. Funds come primarily from sponsorships like Kimmel Carter’s and from private donations, in addition to ticket sales.

Kimmel Carter has been a presenting sponsor for the Games since their founding. Over the years, members of the Kimmel Carter team have also typically played in the sponsors’ game, with Associate Sean Gambogi representing Kimmel Carter this year.

A former sponsors’ team player himself, Managing Partner Larry Kimmel took over for Morton Kimmel as Chair of the Blue-Gold Basketball Board of Trustees in 2013 and has since led yearly planning and fundraising efforts.

Larry values the impact that Blue-Gold Basketball makes on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the opportunities the Games create for the student athletes, who are invited to take part in a series of educational activities preceding game day. Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn, introduced themselves in front of a live state House of Representatives session, and met with Governor Jack Markell in his office.

Larry also hosted the Blue-Gold Basketball Banquet on Thursday, March 17 at Dover Downs, where he spoke about the impact of Best Buddies Delaware and the special capacity the all-star players have to make a difference in their communities.

Delaware State Representative Harvey Kenton was honored at this year’s Blue-Gold Basketball banquet and entrepreneur and renowned boxer Dave Tiberi was inducted into the Blue-Gold Basketball Hall of Fame at the Games on March 19. The Blue-Gold Basketball Board was also honored to have Eagles Offensive Guard Andrew Gardner and Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia Reporter Derrick Gunn at the Games.
