With the arrival of the new year, we are pleased to welcome our newest attorney – Widener University Delaware Law School graduate Emily Laursen.
Emily officially starts her role as an associate this month after working as a Kimmel Carter law clerk for the past three years, and following her Delaware Bar swearing in ceremony on December 9.
At the December ceremony, Kimmel Carter Partner William Peltz served as preceptor for Emily and for former Kimmel Carter Law Clerk Karine Sarkisian, accompanying each onstage as they formally joined the Bar.
“I’ve been impressed with Emily since early in her time here,” Bill says. “Her legal research and writing skills are excellent, largely because she has a knack for identifying and expressing complex issues within a case very quickly. Her work has just always been really, really outstanding.”

Managing Partner Larry Kimmel also spoke highly of Emily: “Emily has been a tremendous asset to the firm as a law clerk, and I know she will continue to be as an attorney,” Larry says. “Her work ethic, legal writing skills, and energy have continually impressed us – all qualities that will translate perfectly to her new role and that will be invaluable to our clients.”
Also a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars, Emily received her bachelor’s degree from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and is a lifelong resident of Delaware. She graduated from Widener in January 2015.
Emily appreciates the experience she gained as a Kimmel Carter law clerk and is excited to begin the next phase of her career at the firm.
“During my time as a law clerk, I was always amazed by how friendly, down to earth and easy to work with everyone at the firm was – lawyers and staff alike,” Emily says. “I also definitely liked the way everyone treats their clients with respect here – I just knew it was a team that I wanted to be part of.”
