Kimmel Carter Attorneys Organize and Support Charity Basketball Event Benefiting Best Buddies Delawa

On Saturday, March 21, a group of Kimmel Carter attorneys and staff spent their day at the Blue-Gold All-Star Basketball Games, which feature the top senior high school basketball players in the state and benefit Best Buddies Delaware, a nonprofit that pairs individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in one-to-one friendships with those without IDD.

While Kimmel Carter supports a variety of nonprofit groups and charity events, the firm has a special connection with Blue-Gold Basketball. Kimmel Carter founding partner Morton Kimmel established the Blue-Gold Basketball Games in 1999 and managing partner Larry Kimmel now chairs the Blue-Gold Basketball Board of Trustees. Kimmel Carter is also a major contributor to the Games each year.

The day-long event on Saturday pitted the top players in northern Delaware – the blue teams – against the top players in southern Delaware – the gold teams – with a girls’ game in the early afternoon and a boys’ game later in the day. The Kimmel Carter group also enjoyed watching the annual Philadelphia Eagles and Blue-Gold Celebrity Sponsors Game in between – especially with associate Sean Gambogi representing the firm on the sponsors’ team!

As Blue-Gold Basketball board members, Larry Kimmel and Morton Kimmel were also involved with organizing the series of events held in the week leading up to the Blue-Gold Games, including the annual “Dover Day” on Wednesday, March 18. Throughout the day, the players and the honorary co-captains had the chance to tour Legislative Hall and meet with Judge Robert Young, Speaker of the House Peter Schwartzkopf, Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst, Governor Jack Markell and other legislators. Judge Young gave a tour of the holding cells below the courthouse and spoke to the student athletes about the Delaware Court system for more than an hour, and the students also had the opportunity to introduce themselves during a House of Representatives live session.

The week also included practices on Tuesday and the Blue-Gold Basketball Banquet on Thursday, March 19, where the student athletes had a chance to celebrate their accomplishments and Nemours Director John Hollis was honored for his service to the Delaware community.
